Montreal Canadiens Rumors: Former Captain Could Become Free-Agent Target

The Montreal Canadiens are expected to be active this offseason after another rough season. As a result of this, Marc Dumont recently mentioned in a Habs mailbag that he wonders if former captain Max Pacioretty could be a good fit for their current roster.

Pacioretty spent the first 10 years of his NHL career as a Canadien and notably sported the "C" for his final years there. He would later be moved to the Vegas Golden Knights for four seasons before dealt to the Carolina Hurricanes this past offseason. However, due to injury trouble, Pacioretty's season ended after just five games played, where he had three goals.

Pacioretty is likely to take a prove-it deal this offseason due to his long-term injury trouble, so perhaps a one-year deal with the Habs could make sense. After all, he knows the organization well and would provide them with a veteran to help mentor their younger players. Alas, we will need to wait and see if a reunion comes to fruition from here.
