Pittsburgh Penguins Veteran Forward Placed On LTIR

The Pittsburgh Penguins will be without 2023 Trade Deadline acquisition Nick Bonino for a while, as the veteran forward has been placed on long-term injured reserve (LTIR).

Bonino suffered a lacerated kidney last weekend and was deemed to be out week to week. Yet, this LTIR placement now means that the 34-year-old will need to miss a minimum of 10 games and 24 days (from the time of his injury).

Due to his development, the Penguins will now be without Bonino for a good amount of the final portion of the regular season. However, there is also a chance that he could return for the last few games of the year if all goes well with his recovery.

In three games since returning to the Penguins, Bonino has zero points and a plus-1 rating.

With Bonino's LTIR placement freeing up a roster spot, the Penguins have called up defenseman Mark Friedman. In 11 games this season, the 5-foot-11 defenseman has one goal, 27 hits, and a plus-1 rating.
