St. Louis Blues & Detroit Red Wings Complete Trade

The St. Louis Blues have acquired forward Jakub Vrana from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Dylan McLaughlin and a seventh-round pick in 2025.

The Red Wings will retain 50% of Vrana's cap hit, which is $5.25 million until the end of next season.

Vrana had one goal and one assist in five games with the Red Wings this season. He also spent time away from the team earlier in the season after entering the NHL and NHLPA players assistance program in mid-October.

He was later waived and sent to the minors before returning to the Red Wings' lineup on Feb. 21. During his time in the AHL, he scored six goals and 11 points.

The twenty-seven-year-old forward has 98 goals and 91 assists for 189 points in 326 career games with the Washington Capitals and Red Wings. He topped the 20-goal mark in back-to-back years with the Capitals in 2019 and 2020.

Vrana has one year left on his three-year contract with a cap hit of $5.20 million. The Capitals selected him in the first round (13th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft.

The Blues are currently 27-29-5 on the season, 13 points behind the Winnipeg Jets for the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. Photo Credit:  Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports
