Vancouver Canucks' Worst Trade Of The Past Year

The Vancouver Canucks have made quite a few trades over the past year and most have actually turned out well for them thus far. There aren't too many that can be questioned, but there is one trade that leads to another that caught my attention. The first of the two trades was the worst of the past year by the Canucks, and that was acquiring Riley Stillman from the Chicago Blackhawks for Jason Dickinson and a second round pick.

At the beginning of the season the Canucks had a couple of more minor injuries on the back-end, but not worth acquiring a defenceman because of it. Just over a week prior to the trade, Travis Dermott was listed as day-to-day with a concussion while Tyler Myers had also just been listed as day-to-day. Seeing as the Canucks had Jack Rathbone and six others to fill the six spots at the time, they really just acquired a depth defenceman while moving out a contract for a pretty high price.

The Canucks wanted to move Dickinson, but his contract wasn't horrible and for too long to cost them a second round pick. He might have had a pretty bad year in Vancouver, but has tied his career high in goals (9) this season and set a career high in points (27) with the Blackhawks.

Stillman suited up for 32 games for the Canucks and averaged 16 minutes a game while adding five assists. More recently he has dealt to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a mid level prospect. The acquisition of Stillman was an overreaction to the defensive situation, didn't get much production out of him, while the team gave up a high draft pick and a player who has bounced back nicely in his role.
