Washington Capitals Rumors: 3 Free Agents to Target This Offseason

Welcome to NHL Trade Rumors' 2023 Free-Agent Targets series. During it, we will be discussing three pending unrestricted free agents that each team should aim to sign.

In this latest installment, we will be focusing on the Washington Capitals. They are expected to have a busy summer after a rough 2022-23 season.

Michael Bunting: The Capitals' top-six forward group could use a boost, so they could certainly be among the suitors for Michael Bunting this summer if he hits the market. The 27-year-old scrappy winger is having another strong season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he had 21 goals, 46 points, and a plus-23 rating.

Vladislav Gavrikov: After trading Dmitry Orlov, the Capitals should be on the hunt for a top-four left-shot defenseman this summer. Vladislav Gavrikov stands out as a quality target for them because of this. He would offer them more defensively responsibility due to his steady game and chip a little offensively in the process.

Garnet Hathaway: Although the Capitals traded Garnet Hathaway to the Boston Bruins before the deadline, it would make sense for them to bring him back to DC. He was excellent as a bottom-six forward for them, and the Capitals certainly miss his immense physicality and decent secondary scoring.
