Washington Capitals Rumors: 3 Offseason Trade Candidates

W
elcome to NHL Trade Rumors' Offseason Trade Candidates series. During it, we will be looking at three players from each team who could be moved during the summer.

In this latest piece, we will be focusing on the Washington Capitals. After a disappointing 2022-23 season, we should see more changes made to their group because of it.

T.J. Oshie: With the Capitals appearing to be retooling, perhaps they could entertain the possibility of moving T.J. Oshie. The veteran winger carries a $5.75 million cap hit until the end of the 2024-25 season, and they could use that cap space to improve their roster elsewhere. With that, his 10-team no-trade list is easy to work around.

Anthony Mantha: The Capitals were actively shopping Anthony Mantha before the deadline passed, and that is likely to carry over to this offseason as well. His $5.7 million cap hit would be excellent for them to get off the books, as he has struggled this season in DC. In 61 games on the year, he has 10 goals to go along with 26 points.

Nic Dowd: The Capitals parted ways with former fourth-line mainstay Garnet Hathaway at the deadline, so could Nic Dowd be next? The Alabama native has emerged as a solid bottom-six forward due to his strong defensive play and tenacity, so there would surely be a market for his services. In 57 games this season, the 32-year-old has 12 goals to go along with 11 helpers.
