Chicago Blackhawks Rumors: Veteran Forward Becoming Trade Candidate

The Chicago Blackhawks are in a full-on rebuild and have traded away several players because of it. Now, a new trade target is starting to emerge, as Tyler Johnson is expected to be shopped this summer.

Johnson has had a strong bounce-back season for Chicago in 2022-23, as he has 11 goals and 30 points in 53 games. With numbers like these, it is clear that he can still provide solid secondary scoring while in a middle-six role. As a result, there should be a market for him this offseason.

The Blackhawks have plenty of cap space to work with as well, so it does not seem too out of the question that they will be willing to retain half of Johnson's salary if it results in them improving the return that they receive for him. Therefore, he could net them a decent return this offseason because of it.

Look for teams like the Tampa Bay Lightning, Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins, Colorado Avalanche, and Winnipeg Jets to be a handful of the clubs who make a push for Johnson this summer. We will now need to wait and see where the veteran forward ends up from here.
