NHL Rumors: 3 Teams Expected to Target Jordan Staal This Offseason

Jordan Staal is one of the most notable pending unrestricted free agents heading into the summer. The longtime Carolina Hurricane would certainly get plenty of attention if he hits the open market, so let's discuss three specific teams who are expected to target him.

Carolina Hurricanes: The Hurricanes are likely to try to re-sign Staal this offseason. The 34-year-old is their captain and an immensely key part of their penalty kill. Although his offense has gone down (33 points in 78 games), he still works well as their 3C, and they will likely be open to bringing him back because of it.

Florida Panthers: The Florida Panthers have had a season of mixed results and could make changes to their group this offseason because of it. They could use a solid bottom-six center who kills penalties, so look for them to consider pursuing Staal. Perhaps signing Jordan could be enough for Marc Staal and Eric Staal to stick around in Florida for another year.

Colorado Avalanche: If Staal hits the free-agent market, we should expect the Avalanche to make a push for him. Centers like J.T. Compher and Lars Eller are pending UFAs, so Colorado could look to add Staal as a potential 3C option for them.
