Washington Capitals Rumors: Coyotes Forward On Team's Radar

The Washington Capitals are heading into the offseason with the expectation of improving their roster. Their 2022-23 season was extremely underwhelming, as they missed the playoffs. As a result, they are ready to make additions to their group, and Arizona Coyotes forward Nick Schmaltz is on their radar because of it.

On a bad Coyotes team, Schmaltz has quietly emerged as a legitimate top-six forward, and one can see that by his excellent stats. After posting a 59-point campaign in 63 games in 2021-22, he followed that up by recording 58 points in 63 games this season. As a result, he has been close to a point-per-game player for two straight years, and he is exactly the kind of forward that the Capitals should be going after.

The Coyotes have become famous for trading away their top players, so don't be surprised if Schmaltz is the next Coyote to be moved this summer. We will need to wait and see if the Capitals can successfully acquire him from here. If they do, they would improve their top six heading into 2023-24.
