3 Pending Free Agents the Maple Leafs Must Re-Sign

The Toronto Maple Leafs are searching for a new general manager and when time comes, there's going to be plenty of work to do. The team has 11 pending free agents and while not everyone will be back in Toronto next season, the Maple Leafs next executive needs to ensure these three players are priority:

Luke Schenn

Schenn's play was called 'remarkable' by the coaching staff as he went from a depth option in Vancouver to playing top-pair minutes for the Maple Leafs in the playoffs. The team needed his sandpaper very badly and he was able to keep his game simple and make an impact. Schenn won't cost a ton to re-sign and with Justin Holl being shown the door, he needs to be his replacement next season and beyond.

David Kampf

Kampf was called the team's under-the-radar MVP last season as he does absolutely everything on the ice. Kampf gives the team PK time, can play a shut down role and his offensive game and speed with the puck is underrated. The 28-year-old will have a number of teams interested on July 1 so it may be wise to get an extension locked in before Kampf's priced out from the Maple Leafs.

Noel Acciari

While Ryan O'Reilly would be amazing to re-sign, it's muck likelier the Leafs can retain both Kampf and Acciari instead. Both pivots give the Leafs huge depth down the middle and are both workhorses. Acciari wants to be a Maple Leaf and the team has been trying to acquire him for three seasons. It was a perfect match last season and Leafs Nation is hopeful a deal can get done and 'Cookie' will stick around the Maple Leafs for years to come.
