Colorado Avalanche Rumors: Star Defenseman Could be Shopped

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Devon Toews is entering the final season of his contract, and he is due for a notable raise from his $4.1 million cap hit. When noting that the Avalanche have a surplus of left-shot defensemen and limited cap space, there have been rumblings that Toews could be shopped this summer.

The Avalanche simply cannot afford to lose a defenseman of Toews' caliber for nothing through free agency next summer (2024), so it may be wise for them to take advantage of his trade value. This is especially so if he can help land them a top-six center or a top-six winger.

Toews put together another excellent season for the Avalanche this season. In 80 games, the 29-year-old had seven goals, 43 assists, and a plus-39 rating.

If made available for trade, some teams who could be in the mix for his services include the Toronto Maple Leafs, Los Angeles Kings, Washington Capitals, Detroit Red Wings, and Florida Panthers.

We will need to wait and see what the Avalanche decide to do with Toews from here.
