New Jersey Devils Rumors: Goaltender Becoming Trade Candidate

The New Jersey Devils have appeared to find their goalie tandem with Akira Schmid and Vitek Vanecek. As a result, Mackenzie Blackwood has become the odd man out, and he is expected to be shopped during the summer because of it.

Blackwood was once viewed as the long-term answer in goal for the Devils, but he has struggled noticeably since the 2020-21 season. This campaign was more of the same for the 26-year-old. Although he sported a 10-6-2 record, his 3.20 goals-against average and .893 save percentage show that he struggled to remain consistent. As a result of this and the rise of Schmid and Vanecek, he is now expendable.

When noting that Blackwood had plenty of success during the beginning stages of his career, there certainly could be a team out there willing to take a chance on him. Perhaps a change of scenery is exactly what he needs to turn things around.

Alas, we will need to wait and see what the Devils end up doing with Blackwood from here.
