NHL Rumors: 3 Teams Expected to Target Erik Johnson This Offseason

Erik Johnson is a pending UFA who should get a good amount of attention as a free agent if he elects to test the market. As a result, let's go over three teams who are expected to target the former first-overall pick.

Colorado Avalanche: The Colorado Avalanche are likely very open to bringing back Johnson. After all, he helped them win a Stanley Cup and has been a solid part of their defensive group for several seasons. With that, he certainly can be had for a much cheaper price now, so expect the Avalanche to express interest in keeping him.

Boston Bruins: If the Avalanche decide to move on from Johnson, do not be surprised if the Bruins try to land him. Connor Clifton is a pending UFA, and Boston is likely to move on from him after his poor play in the postseason. If Johnson is willing to sign cheap to play for another elite club, there could be a match here.

Tampa Bay Lightning: Speaking of contenders, could Johnson and the Tampa Bay Lighting make sense? It seems possible when noting that their right side could use a real jolt. Johnson would be a solid option for their bottom pairing and give them another veteran who has a ring.
