Pittsburgh Penguins Rumors: Defenseman Becoming Trade Candidate

The Pittsburgh Penguins are coming off of a very disappointing 2022-23 season and missed the postseason because of it. As a result, they are expected to make changes to their group this offseason, and defenseman Jeff Petry is emerging as a trade candidate because of it.

Teams looking for some help on their right side could call about Petry. The 35-year-old contributed well offensively for Pittsburgh this year, as he had five goals to go along with 31 points in 61 games played. Overall, even at this point in his career, he can still be an effective addition to a team's power play.

Yet, the primary issue with Petry is that he carries a hefty $6.25 million cap hit. As a result, he would be an expensive addition for any team if they are looking to acquire him. With that, he has a full no-movement clause, so he will determine if he gets traded. With that, his 15-team no-trade list will lower the Penguins' option if Petry is open to getting moved.

Nevertheless, we will need to wait and see what happens with Petry from here.
