Senators Continue To Show Interest In Capitals Forward

The Ottawa Senators have to be searching for a new top-six winger as despite Alex DeBrincat telling the team that he won't sign long-term, he hasn't actually asked for a trade. The Senators could keep him for one final season, but the more logical move is to trade him as it looks like they will be doing very soon.

Teams are interested and if DeBrincat is moved, there will be a hole and a fair bit of money for the Senators to spend in free agency or a trade. Even though the free agent class is pretty good for teams looking for wingers, they appear to have their eye on someone from the Washington Capitals, Tom Wilson, per Jason York.

Although there's no certainty that the Capitals are even in the market to trade their power forward, it hasn't stopped a team like the Senators from continuously showing interest as they have the need and Washington does have to get rid of one of their higher paid forwards. Many think it will be Evgeny Kuznetsov and/or Anthony Mantha, but the interest lies in Wilson who plays a unique game.

The Senators are also looking for that grit and physicality and a player like Wilson is very hard to come by. They already have the skill and speed, so the blend of goal-scoring ability, toughness, size and physicality is what the team has been pushing to bring in. We'll have to wait until DeBrincat is moved to see for sure what the Senators are going to do to address their top-six.
