Philadelphia Flyers Sign Marc Staal

The rebuilding Philadelphia Flyers are adding some experience to their roster, signing Marc Staal to a one-year, $1.1 million contract.

Staal was one of the best remaining UFA defensemen still on the market, and now he has found his next home with the Flyers. He will now serve as an important part of their defensive group as they embark on the first season of their legitimate rebuild.

Staal spent this past season with the Florida Panthers, where he became a notable part of their blueline. Appearing in 82 games with the club, he posted three goals, 15 points, and a plus-10 rating. Overall, it was a solid season for the Panthers, and now he will be aiming to translate it over to the Flyers.

Alas, Staal will now serve as a mentor for the club's younger players in 2023-24. It will be intriguing to see how well he performs for the Flyers from here.
