Minnesota Wild Sign Marcus Foligno to Extension

The Minnesota Wild made a big move earlier today (Sep. 29), signing Mats Zuccarello to a contract extension. Now, they are keeping another one of their important forwards around, as they have signed Marcus Foligno to a four-year, $16 million extension.

Foligno, 32, has emerged as a key part of the Wild's roster over the years. He is one of their top leaders, as evidenced by him being an alternate captain. Now, the Wild have rewarded him for his contributions with this hefty new deal.

Foligno appeared in 65 games last season for the Wild, where he had seven goals, 21 points, and 237 hits. Overall, it was a bit of a down year for him, but he showed in 2021-22 that he can make a bigger impact offensively, as his 23 goals and 42 points effectively display.

With this move, the Wild are keeping around one of their core players, but they did pay a bit more than most hockey fans probably expected. Let's see how well this deal ages from here.
