Maple Leafs Rumors: Teams Will Be Asking For One Player In Trades

The Toronto Maple Leafs are in line to make the playoffs for an eighth season in a row, but something has to change if they intend on going deeper and actually competing for the Stanley Cup. Last season was a step, but not nearly far enough as they won just five games. There are moves coming for a banged up and incomplete Maple Leafs team this season with Brad Treliving at the helm.

Jonas Siegel of The Athletic mentioned that Matthew Knies could be a potential trade piece if the Maple Leafs were to move any of their top prospects to make a serious upgrade. He also notes that this is unlikely though. Knies is without much NHL experience, but he did perform in the playoffs last season and is fitting in nicely as a cheap upgrade on the left side.

Knies name is being thrown out there because that is a player that teams will ask for. It doesn't make much sense for the Maple Leafs to move him unless it is for a very clear upgrade that is more than a rental. Teams will be interested because Knies has shown he is going to be a good player at the NHL level and is capable of being a top-six winger. Don't worry Maple Leafs fans, I don't think Treliving is going to give up on Knies when he has shown nothing but solid improvement and promise as a Leaf.
