Blackhawks Sign Goalie to Contract Extension

The Chicago Blackhawks are staying busy, as they have signed goaltender Petr Mrazek to a two-year, $8.5 million contract.

This is the third player whom the Blackhawks have signed to a contract extension this season, as they also locked up Jason Dickinson and Nick Foligno to two-year pacts. Now, Mrazek is the latest veteran to be sticking around.

Mrazek has had an excellent bounce-back season with the Blackhawks, and this contract extension only displays this more. In 32 appearances, he sports a 12-17-1 record but also a solid .907 SV% and a 3.01 GAA. After a few rough campaigns before 2023-24, he is starting to look more like the goalie he was earlier on his career, and the Blackhawks are keeping him around because of it.

Mrazek was viewed as one of the top goalie candidates heading into the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, as he was on an expiring deal. However, teams looking for a rental goalie will now need to look elsewhere with Mrazek officially locked up.

Mrazek will continue to serve as a key part of the Blackhawks' net with this deal. Whether he remains their starter or eventually becomes their backup, there is no harm in this deal, as the Blackhawks are rebuilding and in no rush to get back into the playoffs.
