Blue Jackets Rumors: Defenseman Expected to Garner Trade Interest

The Columbus Blue Jackets are once again one of the worst teams in the NHL this season. Because of this, they are surely to be sellers at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, so all eyes will be focused on them over these next few weeks. Players like Elvis Merzlikins, Andrew Peeke, Jack Roslovic, and Adam Boqvist have a good chance of being moved, but now there is another Blue Jacket to pay attention to - Jake Bean.

The Blue Jackets have a surplus of NHL defensemen, and Bean certainly could be moved because of it. The 25-year-old has had a fairly underwhelming season this year for the Blue Jackets, as he has three goals, seven points, and a minus-14 rating in 42 games played. Although it has been a tough year for him, there should be interest there, as he is a former first-round pick with upside. With that, he also has a 25-point season on his resume, dating back to the 2021-22 campaign.

Bean is still young enough that he could generate interest from non-playoff teams. However, playoff teams looking to improve their bottom pairing and second power-play unit could also take a shot on him, too. This is especially so if he begins to heat up again and regains his previous form.

Some teams to watch when it comes to Bean over these next few weeks include the Buffalo Sabres, Minnesota Wild, Calgary Flames, Los Angeles Kings, and Washington Capitals.

We will now need to wait and see if Bean ends up being moved before the deadline passes from here.
