Montreal Canadiens Call Up Top Prospect

The Montreal Canadiens have made a notable roster move, as they have called up one of their top prospects, forward Joshua Roy.

The Canadiens were in a position to call up a forward, as they recently sent down fellow prospect Emil Heineman to the American Hockey League (AHL). As a result, Roy is now getting the chance to play with the NHL squad, and he will be looking to make a big impact because of it.

There is naturally going to be a lot of excitement about Roy getting this call-up, as he ha been on the rise. Selected with the 150th overall pick of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, the 20-year-old forward is only continuing to improve. After scoring 46 goals and posting 99 points in 55 games last season in the QMJHL, he is off to an excellent start in the AHL with the Laval Rocket. In 34 games, he has 12 goals to go along with 30 points.

The Habs are hoping that Roy's offensive production at the AHL level can translate over to the NHL. We will now need to wait and see how much of an impact he can make for the Canadiens while with the NHL team from here. If he does well, perhaps this call-up could be a permanent one.

The Canadiens are set to square off against the Edmonton Oilers on Jan. 13.
