Ducks Rumors: Latest On John Gibson Trade Talk

The Anaheim Ducks are expected to be one of the biggest sellers at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. This is not too surprising, as they are among the worst clubs in the NHL. One player who has been generating a lot of buzz in the trade rumor mill for several months this season is John Gibson. However, according to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, it is more likely that the Ducks will not trade their starting goalie during this season.

Friedman had this to say on the matter in his most recent episode of the 32 Thoughts podcast: "I'm not convinced he gets dealt this year."

While Gibson has garnered interest around the NHL, it appears that the Ducks are not necessarily jumping through hoops to try to force a trade during the season, based on Friedman's comments. Given the fact that he has multiple seasons on his contract, that is understandable. Players with long-term deals are easier to move during the offseason, so perhaps that is when we could see Gibson get moved.

If Friedman's words end up being true over these next few weeks, one of the top goalie trade targets will be off the board, which will be bad news for teams like the New Jersey Devils, Carolina Hurricanes, and Edmonton Oilers. However, the goalie market has other notable names to watch besides Gibson, which include Jacob Markstrom, Elvis Merzlikins, Jake Allen, and Marc-Andre Fleury.
