Flames Rumors: Gritty Forward Becoming Trade Candidate

The Calgary Flames are gearing up for what should be a busy trade deadline. Players like Elias Lindholm, Chris Tanev, and Noah Hanifin have been dominating the NHL trade rumor mill because of their pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) statuses, and that is only going to continue until moves are made. However, they are not the only three players who could be moved in the upcoming weeks, as forward A.J. Greer is also starting to pick up some steam in the rumor mill.

After failing to make the Boston Bruins' roster out of training camp and being placed on waivers, the Flames claimed the gritty winger. So far, it has proven to be a good move for the Flames, as Greer has been producing fairly well in a bottom-six role for the club. In 41 games, he has six goals to go along with 10 points. However, his biggest impact has been made through his immense physicality, as his 72 hits show.

Playoff teams love to add some grit to their roster before the postseason, so Greer could be a hot commodity as we inch closer to the trade deadline. He also has a low cap hit and an expiring contract, so he could be a strong rental for a team to bring in for some forward depth.

We will need to wait and see if Greer gets dealt before the trade deadline passes from here.
