NHL Rumors: Oilers & Wild Becoming Possible Trade Partners

The Edmonton Oilers are rapidly climbing in the NHL standings, as they are among the hottest teams in the NHL. Because of this, they are now right back into the playoff race and are expected to be among the top buyers at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline because of it. The Minnesota Wild, on the other hand, are failing to heat up, and their chances of being sellers at the deadline are increasing because of it.

Due to the Wild's struggles, veteran forward Pat Maroon has seen himself become a big name in the NHL trade rumor mill, and it is understandable. He is on an expiring contract, and playoff teams would love to get him, as he, of course, has three Stanley Cup championships on his resume. The Oilers, a team who needs some physicality in their bottom six, should be among them because of it.

Maroon is certainly a familiar face to the Oilers, as he played for them previously. When noting that the Oilers could use more experienced veterans who have won, it would make sense for them to take another chance on Maroon. He would give their fourth line more bite and overall toughness.

We will need to wait and see what happens with Maroon from here, but do not be surprised in the slightest if the Oilers make a push to acquire over these next several weeks leading up to the deadline. On paper, there could be a good match here.
