Insider Reveals Interest Picking Up For Senators' Defenseman

The Ottawa Senators are not only at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings, they are also ranked 30th out of 32 teams in the NHL in points as it stands. While the excuse before was they had a lot of games in hand, they are starting to be evened out with a number of the teams and don't have much of an advantage to catch up anymore. That being said, they are getting interest in some of their players as this team may have to go through some pretty big changes in the near future.

While a lot of the young players are locked up for multiple years, Jakob Chychrun is only signed through next season and is a UFA at the end of his deal. Frank Seravalli of The Daily Faceoff noted that Chychrun has been generating attention as a trade target for some teams. He has been healthy this season and has been very good for the Senators, scoring seven goals and 26 points in 36 games and playing nearly 23 minutes a game.

Chychrun was supposed to be the big piece on the back-end that the Senators brought in that would help change the results to be positive. Although he has done his part, the season has not gone the way that Ottawa would have liked to this point. I fully believe that they will be sellers, trading at least a couple of their pending UFAs, but if the Senators can match the return or even get more for Chychrun than they paid for him, it would be a win if the team dealt him before the trade deadline this season. The Senators have Jake Sanderson who is playing well beyond his years, and Thomas Chabot. I wouldn't be shocked at all if the losing continues that the Senators start having serious conversations with teams involving Chychrun.
