Kraken Rumors: Defenseman Becoming Trade Candidate

The Seattle Kraken are a team to watch very closely over these next few weeks. They are currently in the middle of the Western Conference playoff race, but if they start to fall out of it, they will surely be sellers at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline.

If the Kraken decide to be sellers, they will have some solid trading assets to work with. In a recent article for The Athletic, Thomas Drance listed defenseman Justin Schultz as the most likely Kraken player to be dealt before the deadline if the Kraken sell.

Drance noted that Schultz's expiring contract, mixed with the Kraken's need to give Ryker Evans a permanent spot in their lineup as two reasons why the former could be dealt. With that, he noted that Schultz would be a popular trade target because of his overall experience and that he is a right-shot defenseman.

Schultz, 33, is having a solid season with the Kraken, as he has four goals and 16 points in 41 games. Overall, he is showing that he can still produce fairly well from the point offensively, and there could be several teams interested in him over these next few weeks because of it.

Overall, Schultz's short-term future with the Kraken will likely be determined by how these next few weeks go. We will need to wait and see if he gets dealt from here.
