NHL Rumors: Kings & Canadiens Becoming Possible Trade Partners

The Los Angeles Kings are going to explore the market for another goaltender as we continue to get closer to the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. This is because Pheonix Copley will be out for the rest of the 2023-24 season, and they could use some insurance at the position because of it.

The Montreal Canadiens, on the other hand, are currently sporting three NHL goaltenders in Sam Montembeault, Jake Allen, and Cayden Primeau. While Montembeault will not be moved because of his extension, Allen and Primeau are both standing out as a prime trade targets for the Kings.

If the Habs are willing to retain salary for Allen, he would make sense for the Kings. However, in terms of cap space, Primeau would be the easier player to bring in. With that, he is still young and has the potential to improve, so the Kings could certainly look to bring him in from here.

The Kings are struggling as of late, as they have lost each of their last eight games, so they could be aggressive on the trade market shortly. The Habs have some decent options in the net, as noted above, so these two clubs could certainly have discussions leading up to March 8.
