NHL Rumors: Lightning & Flyers Becoming Possible Trade Partners

The Tampa Bay Lightning are preparing to be buyers at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, as they are looking to improve their roster to help their chances to secure a playoff spot. One area that they are specifically aiming to strengthen is their defensive group, as it is an area that has had some troubles this season.

The Philadelphia Flyers, on the other hand, are having an excellent season, but the expectation is that they will still sell off some of their pending UFAs. This is because they are rebuilding. Two defensemen who are prime trade candidates on their roster are Nick Seeler and Sean Walker. Both of these two would be big addition to the Lightning's roster, and it's likely that they will keep an eye on them because of it.

Out of the pair, Seeler would be the easier addition for the Lightning to make, as he has an extremely affordable cap hit. He would also be a nice addition to their bottom pairing and penalty kill, as he plays a very steady defensive game and also never shies away from the physical side of the game. Thus, he would be great for the Lightning to have, especially for the postseason.

While Walker has a more expensive cap hit, the Lightning need help on their right side, so they surely could make a push for him. They would need the Flyers to retain half of his salary in such a move, which would cost Tampa Bay more. Yet, it would be worth it, as he could fit on their second pairing.

We will need to wait and see if either of these two defenseman end up in Tampa Bay before the deadline passes from here.
