Patrick Kane' Potential Rental Status & Future With Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings have fallen from their place in the standings since Patrick Kane joined, but the blame shouldn't be put on him. There are a lot of competitive teams in the Eastern Conference and the NHL, so it is no easy task coming out of a rebuild, even with a more veteran roster now.

Since the Red Wing currently sit outside of the playoff picture and it will be difficult for them to climb back in, there has been rumors that Kane will become a trade candidate and a rental for teams. David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period has shut those rumors down, saying that it would be surprising if he was moved. Kane has done his job offensively since arriving, and the one-year deal he got was definitely an insurance plan for the Red Wings if things didn't work out.

Before signing his one-year deal with Detroit, Kane wanted a multi-year deal with the team, but had to settle for shorter. This shows us that he is committed to the Red Wings and sticking around past this season, even if he is without a contract at the moment. He gets to play with Alex DeBrincat and on an original-six American team on the rise, the Red Wings have cap space, and he is succeeding. Detroit has to find the money in order to bring him back.
