Avalanche Rumors: 3 Contract Extension Candidates

The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline saw several teams make moves, and the league looks far different now because of it. However, now that the deadline has passed, we won’t see any more trades until after the season. Although this is the case, we still could see teams sign players to contract extensions. As a result, we here at NHLTR will be going over three contract extension candidates from each team.

In this latest edition of the series, we will be looking at the Colorado Avalanche.

Casey Mittelstadt: Before the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline passed, the Avalanche acquired Casey Mittelstadt for Bowen Byram. This was a massive trade for the Avs, as they traded a young defenseman with high promise for an impactful top-six forward in Mittelstadt. Due to this, he is a player who they are surely going to re-sign this summer. He is a pending RFA.

Jonathan Drouin: Jonathan Drouin has been a truly outstanding fit for the Avalanche. He has bounced back wonderfully after an immensely rough stint with the Montreal Canadiens and is playing like a true top-six forward. Because of this, the Avs certainly could look to keep him around if they can make it work financially.

Sean Walker: Sean Walker was another deadline addition who the Avalanche could try to sign to an extension. The pending UFA has been having a strong season, and it would be great to keep around if possible.
