Blue Jackets Recall Top Prospect David Jiricek

The Columbus Blue Jackets have made a notable move, as they have recalled top prospect David Jiricek from the Cleveland Monsters on an emergency basis.

This emergency recall is in response to star Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski being questionable for Friday's (March 22) contest against the Colorado Avalanche. Werenski blocked a shot against the Detroit Red Wings in the Blue Jackets' last contest.

Jiricek, 20, was selected sixth overall by the Blue Jackets during the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. The expectation is that he will become a star at the NHL level, and now he is getting another chance on the Blue Jackets' roster with Werenski potentially being sidelined.

Jiricek has played in 36 games this season with the Blue Jackets, posting one goal, nine points, and a minus-1 rating. He was sent back down to the Monsters back in January and has been on fire since. In 24 AHL games this season, he has seven goals to go along with 17 points.

Nevertheless, we will need to wait and see what happens with Jiricek from here. If he gets into game action, he will look to make a big impact in hopes of maintaining a spot on their NHL roster.
