Canadiens Rumors: 3 Contract Extension Candidates

The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline saw several teams make moves, and the league looks far different now because of it. However, now that the deadline has passed, we won’t see any more trades until after the season. Although this is the case, we still could see teams sign players to contract extensions. As a result, we here at NHLTR will be going over three contract extension candidates from each team.

In this latest edition of the series, we will be focusing on the Montreal Canadiens.

Arber Xhekaj: Arber Xhekaj is in the final season of his entry-level deal and will be a restricted free agent this offseason because of it. The young defenseman is somebody who the Canadiens are surely going to keep around, as he is an immensely physical player who has the potential to be a long-term part of their core.

Jesse Ylonen: Jesse Ylonen is another pending RFA who the Canadiens are likely to re-sign. The 24-year-old may not be producing much offensively this season, but he has the potential to become an impactful NHL player as he continues to gain more experience. Thus, he should get a new deal.

Colin White: Earlier this season, the Canadiens claimed Colin White off of waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins. Due to his past success, the Habs could consider keeping him around as a depth forward at a cheap price.
