Hurricanes Make Huge Deadline Add — Without A Trade

The Carolina Hurricanes have been in the thick of things to make a big addition in trade talks this week, but they were able to make a huge deadline addition to their roster today without swinging a deal, as they've activated goaltender Frederik Andersen off injured reserve for the first time since he suffered from a blood-clotting issue early in the season.

Goaltending has been a problem for the Canes all season, but the return of Andersen could make a huge difference heading down the stretch. The 34-year-old is 60-26-4 with a .914 SV% in three seasons as a member of the Hurricanes and was 4-1-0 through his first six games this campaign before having to leave the team with the concerning medical issue.

Head coach Rod Brind'Amour suggested earlier in the week that Andersen could be making his debut this week.

"I think it's around the corner... he looks good and he feels good, so it's coming."

Andersen has been a top goalie in the NHL for the last 10 years, with a 286-128-52 record, a 2.58 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage.

In 62 playoff games, he has a 2.44 GAA and a .917 Sv%.

Carolina also put Antti Raanta on waivers earlier on Thursday, to clear up some of the goaltending backlog on the roster.
