Islanders Rumors: 3 Contract Extension Candidates

The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline saw several teams make moves, and the league looks far different now because of it. However, now that the deadline has passed, we won’t see any more trades until after the season. Although this is the case, we still could see teams sign players to contract extensions. As a result, we here at NHLTR will be going over three contract extension candidates from each team.

In this latest edition of the series, we will be looking at the New York Islanders.

Cal Clutterbuck: Cal Clutterbuck has been a key part of the Islanders' bottom six for quite some time. There's no question that they often like to keep their veterans around, so it would not be too surprising to see him to stick around with the Islanders at a cheap cap hit. The same can be said for Matt Martin.

Mike Reilly: Mike Reilly has been a great fit for the Islanders since they picked him up off of waivers from the Florida Panthers. He has provided solid offense from the point and has been pretty steady defensively. Because of this, they would be wise to keep him around beyond this season at a reasonable cap hit.

Simon Holmstrom: Simon Holmstrom is quietly having a breakout season with the Islanders. He is emerging as a legitimate NHL forward, as he has 13 goals to go along with 22 points in 68 games. Because of this, the Islanders are surely going to keep the pending RFA around.
