Sabres Rumors: 3 Contract Extension Candidates

The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline saw several teams make moves, and the league looks far different now because of it. However, now that the deadline has passed, we won’t see any more trades until after the season. Although this is the case, we still could see teams sign players to contract extensions. As a result, we here at NHLTR will be going over three contract extension candidates from each team.

In this latest edition of the series, we will be looking at the Buffalo Sabres.

Zemgus Girgensons: Zemgus Girgensons is a clear candidate for a contract extension. The veteran forward has spent the entirety of his career with the Sabres and has expressed interest in staying put. With the team being so young, keeping an experienced leader like Girgensons around, especially at a cheap price, would be worthwhile.

Peyton Krebs: It has been a disappointing season for Peyton Krebs. The former top prospect is having trouble becoming a more impactful player offensively. While this is the case, he is still young and has upside, so the Sabres are likely to sign him to a bridge deal and keep him around.

Henri Jokiharju: Henri Jokiharju is another pending RFA who is likely to get another contract from the Sabres this offseason. The 24-year-old is quietly having a solid season, posting three goals, 16 points, and a plus-14 rating in 66 games.
