Blue Jackets Rumors: Ivan Provorov Likely to be Shopped

Leading up to the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Ivan Provorov generated a lot of trade chatter. In the end, the Blue Jackets elected to have him stay put, but that does not mean his future with the club is set in stone.

There's a real expectation that the Blue Jackets will be open to hearing offers for Provorov over the summer as they continue to retool their roster.

Provorov, 27, will be entering the final season of his contract in 2024-25. With the Blue Jackets unlikely to be a real threat next season, they certainly could look to move him. This is especially so if they do not view him as a long-term part of their roster or he does not express interest in signing an extension with the club.

Provorov has had a decent season with the Blue Jackets in 2023-24, as he has five goals to go along with 31 points in 78 games. Because of this and his overall past success, there certainly should be some teams that express interest in him this summer. Some clubs who were rumored to be interested in him leading up to the deadline included the Tampa Bay Lightning, Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton Oilers, and Toronto Maple Leafs.

We will need to wait and see if the Blue Jackets end up moving Provorov this offseason from here.
