Columbus Blue Jackets' 3 Best Contracts of 2023-24

The Columbus Blue Jackets don't have a lot of good things going for them, but the hope is for them to turn things around sooner than later. What will help is having some players on good contracts, which they do. So let's look at the three best this season.

Alexander Nylander

The Blue Jackets have absolutely won the trade to bring in Alexander Nylander this season as he has been amazing for them while having no expectations. He spent most of the season in the AHL for Pittsburgh's affiliate, but once he joined the Blue Jackets, Nylander has scored 10 goals and 13 points in 17 games. It might not be sustainable over a long period of time, but every NHL player is skilled and he was drafted high in the first round for a reason. Nylander is on a league minimum deal of $775,000 AAV this season.

Daniil Tarasov

For being on such a bad team, the Blue Jackets' goalies have not been the problem. Daniil Tarasov, the goaltender of the future it seems in Columbus, has posted the best numbers thus far and he's signed through next season at just $1.05 million AAV. The 25-year-old has a .909 SV% in 23 games, but has done his job well when called upon. He could easily split starts in the Blue Jackets' net.

Boone Jenner

The Blue Jackets have had to deal with some injuries and key players out of the lineup this season including Boone Jenner for 17 games. When he has been in the lineup, he is the top line center for the team and has produced this season. He may not be a number one center on most teams, but he plays his role well on Columbus for having a cap hit of $3.75 million until 2026. The captain is well underpaid for what he continuously brings to the team.
