Red Wings Rumors: Detroit To Trade Goaltender This Offseason

This offseason, the Detroit Red Wings are poised to shake up their goaltending situation, with trade talks swirling around Ville Husso and Alex Lyon, as noted by Kristen Shilton and Ryan S. Clark.

Despite both netminders demonstrating their worth, the Red Wings' depth chart between the pipes has become crowded, prompting speculation of an imminent trade to rebalance the roster.

Husso would be the more obvious choice to move, and General Manager Steve Yzerman could look to bring in another goaltender to work with Lyon, perhaps a bigger name.

Husso was an All-Star in the 2021-22 season with the St. Louis Blues, but did not perform as expected in his two seasons with Detroit, recording an .895 SV%, 3.22 GAA, four shutouts, and a 35-27-9 record across 75 games played.

With Husso and Lyon both presenting valuable assets, the Red Wings have an opportunity to address other areas of need by leveraging their depth in goal.

Lyon blew past his previous career-high in games played (15) this past season, recording a .904 SV%, 3.05 GAA, two shutouts and a 21-18-5 record across 44 games played in his first season with Detroit.

His name has been mentioned in trade rumors, but, unless Detroit brings in a big-name goalie, it would appear Husso would be the one on the move this summer. Photo Credit: Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports
