Jets Rumors: Nikolaj Ehlers Trade Chatter Heating Up

The Winnipeg Jets are one of the clubs to watch extremely closely this offseason. They not only have several free agents, but star winger Nikolaj Ehlers has been the subject of trade chatter. The skilled forward is entering the final season of his deal, and there has been a lot of speculation about a potential move centering around him.

Now, more fuel has been added to that fire big time. According to NHL insider David Pagnotta, Ehlers has not requested a trade, but he would welcome a change of scenery. In addition, Pagnotta also reported that Ehlers is not open to signing a contract extension, and that is why the Jets are shopping him.

With this big update, it is clear that Ehlers is a player to watch incredibly closely during the summer. If he is truly unwilling to sign an extension, the Jets ultimately have no choice but to trade him. He is too valuable of an asset to lose for nothing. The Jets could get themselves a pretty nice return for him, as he is a top-six winger who is coming off of another strong season.

Ehlers, 28, appeared in 82 games this season with the Jets, where he had 25 goals to go along with 61 points and a plus-27 rating. Overall, it was another successful season for the nine-year veteran, and a plethora of teams could use his production in their lineups right now.

We will need to wait and see what happens with Ehlers during the offseason from here, but a trade certainly seems to be on the way.
