NHL Rumors: 3 Teams Linked To Tyler Bertuzzi In Free Agency

Tyler Bertuzzi, a high-profile UFA this summer, has been linked to three potential destinations if he hits free agency: the Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, and Nashville Predators.

Adam Proteau of The Hockey News suggests that Bertuzzi's chances of re-signing with the Leafs stand at 60/40.

Bertuzzi thrived in the latter half of the season with Toronto, scoring 15 goals and adding 23 points in the final 34 games. Despite his strong performance, Toronto's salary cap constraints might complicate efforts to retain him, especially if he seeks a lucrative long-term deal, estimated around $5-6 million annually for three years.

On the other hand, the Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators both have ample salary cap space and could greatly benefit from Bertuzzi's gritty playing style.

A reunion with the Red Wings would bring him back to familiar territory, where he spent seven successful years, and aligns with Detroit's push for playoff contention with $29.3 million in cap space, as noted by Proteau.

Bertuzzi recorded 88 goals and 114 assists for 202 total points across 305 games played across his eight seasons with Detroit.

Meanwhile, Proteau speculates the Predators, boasting a nice $26.3 million in cap space, could offer a fresh start with a team that values his toughness and tenacity, away from the intense Toronto media spotlight.

Bertuzzi's decision in free agency will likely hinge on his desire for financial security and the best fit for his playing style and career aspirations.
