3 Offseason Targets For St. Louis Blues
The additions for the St. Louis Blues are likely not going to be big this offseason. The hope for them is that who they have continues to play at a high level and the younger talent takes steps forward. No team goes without changes though and at the very least, there are going to be a couple in the organization this summer.
Pius Suter
Why shouldn't the Blues try to add something fairly significant in the offseason? While he's not a household name, Pius Suter has done a great job this season with the Vancouver Canucks and has gotten some attention. Who knows, if the Blues add him, he could push Brayden Schenn for the second line center role to spread things out a bit, but would still fit in nicely on the third line. Adding someone like him up front would just delay some regular playing time for some young players, but they may get better development that way.
Calvin de Haan
Calvin de Haan wasn't happy with not being used down the stretch by the New York Rangers after he played well when he did get in a game, so he will once again be looking for an opportunity. I don't know if the Blues exactly offer what de Haan will be looking for, but he is a solid veteran presence who will be able to get some games in on the third pairing. There were many injuries this season on the back-end of the Blues, so that would surely open up playing time. He still has game and would be able to fill in and fight for a spot as the sixth/seventh d-man in training camp.
Nick Cousins
Every team could use a rat, especially one that will be fighting to get into the playoffs and push deeper. Nick Cousins isn't a game changer, but he will get under the skin of his opponents. He doesn't even have to play every game, but getting him in the right games would work just fine. At least having him as an option is better than having another fringe NHLer waiting to get into a game or be sent back down. The Blues are looking like they will be on the rise and they might as well try out their luck with a player like Cousins who has the experience as well.
