NHL Rumors: Canucks Eyeing Noah Dobson In Off-season Blockbuster

Explore the latest Noah Dobson rumors as the Vancouver Canucks consider a blockbuster trade with the Islanders.

The Canucks could land elite defenseman Noah Dobson in a blockbuster move this off-season.

The NHL offseason rumor mill is in full swing, with Noah Dobson’s name at the center of trade talks—this time, involving a potential blockbuster deal between the Vancouver Canucks and New York Islanders.

Following the recent dismissal of longtime Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello, Dobson’s future as a restricted free agent has become a major topic of discussion, fueling speculation that he could be on the move from Long Island.

Despite being a fixture in trade rumors over the past two seasons, the Islanders have held onto their star defenseman.

However, with a new GM set to take the helm, the organization may finally be willing to part ways with Dobson—giving the Canucks a prime opportunity to make a bold offer.

Breaking Down the Proposed Trade Package

The mock trade would see the Canucks acquire Noah Dobson, veteran center Jean-Gabriel Pageau, and a 2025 third-round pick.

In exchange, the Islanders would receive top prospect Tom Willander, goaltender Arturs Silovs, depth forward Teddy Blueger, a 2026 first-round pick, and a 2025 second-round pick.

On paper, the trade seems fair for both sides. Dobson would instantly upgrade Vancouver’s defense with his offensive upside and youth, while Pageau adds experience and depth at center.

However, there are compelling reasons why this deal might not come to fruition.

Why the Trade Might Not Make Sense for Vancouver

The Canucks are already facing a shortage of scoring forwards, especially after trading J.T. Miller and with Brock Boeser likely departing in free agency.

While Dobson would be a major addition to the blue line, Vancouver’s most pressing need is a reliable top-six forward who can produce offensively. Splurging assets on a defenseman—even one as talented as Dobson—may not address their biggest weakness.

Instead, the Canucks could shift their focus to free agency, where high-impact forwards like Mitch Marner, Nikolaj Ehlers, or Sam Bennett may be available.

Still, NHL trades are unpredictable, and this scenario could evolve quickly. Fans on both sides will be watching closely to see if this blockbuster materializes.
