Breaking NHL News: NY Islanders Make Big Decision on Pending UFA Kyle Palmieri
The New York Islanders got a couple of nice pieces of business done on Friday, as new GM Mathieu Darche gets his feet wet in the job by officially signing pending unrestricted free agent Kyle Palmieri and restricted free agent Adam Boqvist to new extensions.

Seven-time 20+ goal scorer Palmieri is the bigger news here, and he lands a two-year deal with a $4.75M AAV. He has a full no-trade clause in the first season, and a 16-team no-trade list the year after. He was coming off a four-year deal with a $5M cap hit.
For Boqvist, it's a one-year contract for $850,000.
Insider Elliotte Friedman said he believes that both of these deals had been generally agreed to before Darche’s hiring, but the new GM is fully on board now, getting these officially signed off on.
Palmieri, 34, had 24 goals and 24 assists for 48 points this season in 82 games. In four seasons with his hometown Islanders, he has 172 points in 305 games, and has added 10 goals in 30 Islanders playoff games.
In a 15-year career, he's also suited up for the New Jersey Devils and Anaheim Ducks, and has 527 points in 900 games.
Boqvist, 24, a first-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, came to the Island when they claimed him off waivers from the Florida Panthers at the end of January. The right-shot D recorded eight points in 17 games with the Isles, and just completed his 6th NHL season.
