Jets Rumors: Latest On Nikolaj Ehlers' Future In Winnipeg
The Winnipeg Jets are entering the offseason with multiple pending free agents, but star winger Nikolaj Ehlers is undoubtedly the most notable. If the Jets are unable to get him signed to a new deal by July 1, he will become an unrestricted free agent and be one of the NHL's top targets.
Now, an update about Ehlers' future in Winnipeg has been provided. According to The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, it appears likely that Ehlers will test the free-agent market this summer.
"Is Nik Ehlers' run in Winnipeg finally over? He's a UFA this July and barring a major change of heart, all signs point to him hitting the market," Pagnotta writes.
Given how important of a player Ehlers is to the Jets' roster, it would undoubtedly be a tough blow for Winnipeg if he signs elsewhere. He has been a great part of their top six for a long time now, and replacing him would not be an easy task in the slightest.
Ehlers had another strong season with the Jets in 2024-25, recording 24 goals, 63 points, and a plus-14 rating in 69 games. With numbers like these, he certainly would generate interest from teams needing more offense in their top six if he does, in fact, test the market.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see what happens between the Jets and Ehlers from here, but it certainly seems possible that he could be heading elsewhere.
