Maple Leafs Rumors: 6 Potential Suitors Named For Mitch Marner

Mitch Marner, Toronto Maple Leafs

Mitch Marner is the top player who can hit the free-agent market on July 1. If the Toronto Maple Leafs are unable to re-sign him or simply let him walk, he will undoubtedly be a very popular target, as he is a superstar talent.

In a recent article for The Fourth Period, NHL insider David Pagnotta named the Chicago Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings, Utah Mammoth, Pittsburgh Penguins, San Jose Sharks, and Calgary Flames as teams who should make a push to sign Marner this offseason if he becomes a free agent.

When noting that each of these six teams could use a superstar winger in their lineups, it is understandable that they are being viewed as likely suitors for Marner if he hits the market this summer. He would be an excellent addition to any of these clubs, as he is a 100-point player.

For rebuilding teams like the Blackhawks and Sharks, Marner could be a great veteran player and mentor they build around. For teams like Utah and Calgary, he could be the final piece of the puzzle that helps them take that next step and get into the playoffs. With Pittsburgh, Marner could form an incredible one-two punch with superstar Sidney Crosby and perhaps get them to turn things back around. As for LA, Marner could be the superstar they need to finally go on a long playoff run and be legitimate contenders.

Nevertheless, it is going to be very interesting to see what happens with Marner this offseason. Whether he stays in Toronto, signs with one of these six teams, or goes to another club not discussed, he is going to be a massive signing for any organization.
