NHL News: Islanders Provide Big Update About Patrick Roy's Future
New York Islanders head coach Patrick Roy has created some speculation as a hot seat candidate. Questions about Roy's future only picked up when the Islanders chose not to renew former general manager Lou Lamoriello's contract. However, a major update about Roy has now been provided.
Recently hired Islanders general manager Mathieu Darche has announced that Roy will be sticking around as the Metropolitan Division club's head coach.

With this update, Roy will now have the opportunity to try to help the Islanders turn things around. The 2024-25 season was a tough one for the Islanders, as they finished the year with a 35-35-12 record and missed the post-season for the first time since the 2021-22 season.
Roy took over as the Islanders' head coach during the middle of the 2023-24 season after they fired Lane Lambert from the position. Following this, Roy led the Islanders to a 20-12-5 record, which was enough for them to qualify for the playoffs.
It will now be very fascinating to see if Roy can help the Islanders bounce back in 2025-26 after getting confirmation from Darche that he is staying put. Time will tell what happens on that front.
