NHL News: Tomas Tatar Leaves Devils & Signs Overseas

Tomas Tatar, New Jersey Devils

Tomas Tatar is taking his talents overseas, as the veteran forward has signed a two-year contract with EV Zug of the National League in Switzerland.

Tatar, 34, just spent the 2024-25 season with the New Jersey Devils. It was a tough year for him, as he had just seven goals, 10 assists, and a minus-7 rating in 74 games. This was after he had nine goals and 24 points in 70 games split between the Colorado Avalanche and Seattle Kraken in 2023-24.

During his prime years in the NHL, Tatar was a solid top-six forward who provided solid offense. However, as his NHL career continued, he became more of a bottom-six forward, like he was this season with the Devils.

Tatar Will Give EV Zug Player With Plenty Of NHL Experience

Tatar was selected by the Detroit Red Wings with the 60th overall pick of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. In 927 career NHL games over 14 seasons split between the Detroit Red Wings, Vegas Golden Knights, Montreal Canadiens, Avalanche, Kraken, and Devils, he has 227 goals, 269 assists, 496 points, and a plus-43 rating.

Tatar's plethora of NHL experience should make him a key player on EV Zug's roster moving forward. It will be interesting to see how he performs with the club from here.
