NHL Rumors: 3 Los Angeles Kings Who Won't Be Back Next Season
The Los Angeles Kings once again couldn't get passed the Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. GM Rob Blake made several moves to set his team up for success in season, and unfortunately things didn't pay off for the Kings.
Heading into the 2025 offseason, the Kings are going to be active upgrading their roster, as their window to win is now, and Blake's going to be aggressive in all avenues. While there's going to be new talent coming in, there's also going to be some departures. Here's three Kings who aren't expected back next season:
Tanner Jeannot
Jeannot wasn't available for the playoffs due to injury, and as an unrestricted free agent, is likely a forward the Kings move off of. Jeannot's a grinder, he hits everything that moves, and he was notoriously involved in one of the most lopsided trades in NHL history, when he was dealt to the Lightning for a slew of draft picks and prospects. Jeannot finished the year with 13 points in 67 games and look for the Kings to reallocate resources, as he was making $2.6 million against the cap.
Trevor Lewis
The veteran centre rejoined the Kings, and at 38 years old, this could be it for Lewis. He's certainly slowed down with time, but Lewis has always been known as a defensively reliable centre who knows his role, is a great teammate in the room, and is someone who is willing to sacrifice anything for his team to win. Lewis finished the regular season with 12 points in 60 games, and appeared in two playoff games, playing only four minutes per contest.
David Rittich
Rittich was a solid #2 behind Darcy Kuemper this season, appearing in 34 games, winning 16, and posting a 2.84 goals against average. The 32-year-old will certainly be picked up by another team as a backup option for the 2025-26 season, but don't expect to Kings to circle back. They have prospect Erik Portillo who is ready to take the next step, and will likely be the Kings backup next year.
