NHL Rumors: 3 Potential Free-Agent Destinations For Dmitry Orlov
Dmitry Orlov is one of the Carolina Hurricanes' top pending unrestricted free agents (UFA) heading into the summer, and he should get plenty of interest if he hits the market on July 1. Because of this, let's go over three teams who could look to sign Orlov this summer now.
Columbus Blue Jackets
If the Blue Jackets lose fellow pending UFA defenseman Ivan Provorov this offseason, Orlov would stand out as a prime potential replacement. Like Provorov, Orlov is a solid top-four defenseman who chips in offensively from the point. Because of this, he could be a very good option for the Blue Jackets this summer. This remains true even if Provorov sticks around in Columbus.
Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings should be looking to improve their blueline this summer, and bringing in a defenseman like Orlov would do just that. When looking at their defense, Orlov could slot nicely on their second pairing, whether he plays on the left or right side. Furthermore, he would give them another option on the point for their power play.
Washington Capitals
Could a reunion between Orlov and the Capitals make sense? There's no question that Orlov had a ton of success during his time in DC, and the Capitals would benefit from having him on their roster. This is especially so if he would be willing to take a bit of a discount to return to the Capitals.
