3 Potential Trade Destinations for Maple Leafs' David Kampf

The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to reshape their bottom six this summer, which means David Kampf is likely getting traded, or if no talks materialize, will likely be bought out. Let's stick to the trade route for this piece.

The 30-year-old depth centre has two seasons left on his current deal, earning $2.4 million AAV, and Kampf owns a 10-team no-trade clause, so he has some say in the matter. The defensive-minded pivot recorded five goals and 13 points in 59 games last season, and only managed to appear one Stanley Cup Playoff games for the Leafs, thanks to Scott Laughton taking over his role.

Here's three teams to keep an eye on as trade candidates for Kampf:

Chicago Blackhawks

Kampf's only played for two teams in his career, and the Blackhawks know him very well. They have a need to improve all throughout their forward group and adding the defensively responsible Kampf could give them a boost in the penalty kill department, and help with keeping the puck out of the back of their nets. They have the money to add Kampf's salary with ease, and could finagle a sweetener in the trade to get Kampf off the Leafs' books.

Winnipeg Jets

The Jets may have a glaring hole on their fourth line and could see Kampf as a great replacement candidate. The Jets have some other forwards to worry about, including Nik Ehlers' extension, but once they get the major orders of business done, could turn to the trade route to improve their bottom six.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Kyle Dubas loves to get his guys, so look for the Penguins to have interest in Kampf this summer. They'll also be in on Mitch Marner, and it will be interesting to see how Dubas spends his $24.4 million cap space, which could increase significantly if he can move Erik Karlsson at the draft as well.
